You have to see the end results of the game that you’re planning in order to believe in the long-term performance. What do I mean? Well, you have to know what it is YOU want to accomplish and what value it offers you. There are a lot of other things in life, but there’s a good chance that you won’t be selling cars. In fact, you’re probably going to be selling something else. But the thing is, if you get this simple, the result that you get from this simple can be the result that you want to have — or at least that could happen if you’re a little thoughtful.
How do you know what you want to accomplish? How easy does that become? You just go in to that task with something specific in mind. So you know exactly what it is you’ll be doing, exactly what value it will give — and that value should be high enough that you can justify it to yourself. Once you’ve chosen this task, you know precisely what you want to achieve.
Now let’s add additional elements to the challenge that you choose to apply. You could be choosing to add another type of challenge — maybe you’re in search of additional sales growth, or you want to make sure you’re keeping up with new technology. One good rule of thumb is that if you can’t provide some benefit from your new challenge, then it won’t be worth the investment to you.
How to approach a challenge that requires “a little imagination”? Here’s an example: say that your task is to design a logo for a digital marketing company named Bully. Now, the Bully team has created some pretty great logos in the past, most notably back in the day when they were the most popular brand on the web. So, you think you’re likely to need to work on something similar.
Then I suggested to you to think of Bully and what it could be offering you. What’s it offering you — or more specifically, what sort of challenge is it having that will add value to you? I’ve made the following case.
