It’s so easy! If you have a table saw (or an electric motor, or some other form of rotary tool) there are many ways to work on wood. One very popular way is with a saw. Your saw should allow you to work from a 90 degree angle to be able to make a small notch in the wood. Using it from a 45° is a little challenging. As for a table saw, it works perfectly well.
I think most people who cut boards don’t understand the different levels of grain in different materials: I get emails from people who think they use some wood from a hardwood tree, and yet not only is the material of choice different colors and types of wood, but how much the wood is used for is different.
I cut by hand with a plane/sander, but I also use the same process with an old hand plane. One thing you have to keep in mind is to use different types of planes for the same type of work. That is the most important thing to remember when it comes to woodworking.
How can I trim trees at will? This is a difficult question, since the way I trim trees depends on the type of tree (and sometimes it will depend on the type of construction).
I think most people, and this is me, do not know how to trim a tree, without destroying the structure. If you are serious about woodworking, there are 2 things you should do:
If you are trimming a large tree, then maybe take pictures of the finished work and have a plan. If you are trimming a small tree, then maybe buy the plan to make sure you do not mess up anything. You can do it if you are really serious. One thing you can do, though, is to use the plan to decide on the width of the board you are getting. Make sure you don’t end up with a board too wide that the blade does not cut through it easily.
If the boards are smaller, make sure that the thickness of the boards is right for the job you will be doing. If it is thinner, then take a piece of rubber and bend it to the correct shape to make the board conform. One thing you should never do: take a single piece of wood and try to cut it with each cut. If you get the boards that are thinner and are not flat (with any other material that is not a wood, even PVC) make you do some slight adjustments or even cut
