Your skin may come off on its own the first few times you do it. Some people take a few weeks to recover completely, which is normal. If your skin is still red and tender at this time, you might have to do it again a few days later as the ink remains on your skin.
Can I wear it? Your tattoo may be permanent (i.e., you can’t wear it permanently) but it’s still easy to remove. First, apply a thick moisturizing lotion to your forearm and apply a special cream or gel on the skin area in question and let it sit for 1 to 2 hours. Do this in a closed bathroom area and try to avoid direct sunlight, which could also cause the ink to get into your eye. Leave the area as much of the gel and lotion as you can in place, so that any ink that drips onto the skin after the 2-hour treatment drips into your eye.
How can I take care of the damaged skin? To get the most out of your tattoo, you should wash the area and apply a thick moisturizer, such as moisturizer with SPF (sun protection factor). Make sure a light moisturizer is used, since you can get ink on your skin more easily in a darker moisturizer. You can also use an eye drop treatment cream to help lessen any irritation. After cleaning, blot or blotting the ink, then wash it away with alcohol, water (just a little), or gentle hand towel. Do not use alcohol to scrub the ink, as it can cause dryness and inflammation. You may like to use an anti-acne cream to help prevent further damage to the skin. Always follow your doctor’s advice when using an anti-acne cream.
What’s the outlook with cosmetic damage? As with most medical conditions, it’s often a matter of how quickly a new or less expensive treatment can work. Because tattoo ink can be removed quickly and easily, you might see improvement in 2 to 4 weeks. But some people report needing 2 times as long, or more frequently, to see a satisfactory result. If you’re not sure which is best for you, talk to your doctor or dermatologist. A new treatment may be right for you and may be the best option for you.
