By By Karen Graham Jul 22, 2012 in Odd News There has been a recent spate of articles and opinions regarding the subject of women who have been molested and killed by husbands, boyfriends, parents or friends. These stories are a huge, national story and are sure to be a cause célèbre for a long time. We’re not seeing an end to this; in fact, the number of women who are reporting these situations has only increased recently. However, the truth remains that the majority of cases are not being reported. Of the 6,500 reported cases of women molested as children, only about 300 were reported as being confirmed to be rapes, which is approximately 1% and only a very small portion of all reported cases. The vast majority of these cases are not “false reports” and are not cases of female on male molestation, although there is no scientific research supporting this assertion. However, the case of these cases being reported only makes the point that the reporting is going on, but only in most instances, not to actually end it but to “diversion” the issue of the perpetrators to avoid the shame of being accused of false accusations. In a recent study and a recent study in Britain, two very large and high profile cases of rape and a couple of murder cases in Sweden (the first was reported on, another case was recently reported, the last will be released on Saturday July 31) have stirred up national discussion about the issue of why the stories don’t begin to pile up with women who go to the authorities for help or who are in the criminal justice system as well as the general public about these cases.
