I do a lot of painting, I have an M12 kit, plus a couple of cars. I’m very good with brushes, I do most of my painting in my basement, I got a brush set which is an old Bic pen for painting.
Q. When did you start painting?
A. About 18 years ago.
Q. Are you currently teaching?
A. Yeah, right now I teach a little studio at home, one of a kind project classes.
Q. Where do you work?
A. Well, I work at home, but I live in a nice apartment on Lake Forest, an interesting place for an auto artist to live. A lot of my paints are done at home, I paint a lot on the side of the house. One of my big inspirations is a classic piece by Bob Ross, “The Art of Paint and Sculpt,” it’s a painting. All these paintings in a small, simple composition, one of my favorite types of images to paint.
Q. Can you sketch or photograph your art while you are painting?
A. No, of course not. You can never be too careful.
Q. That’s funny, it’s like your paintings are like photos, I can’t even tell where they are if they’re anywhere near me, they just sort of float right at me. What can you do to keep yourself safe?
A. I don’t really know, I’m not the type of person you’d want to be in constant danger. A lot of people are nervous about their work so they don’t paint much. A lot of artists paint very quickly. A lot of times I finish my painting and it’s all over quickly, I just don’t want to wait. It takes away a lot of the feeling of creating something, making something and then letting it fade out. It’s always interesting to see what people can do with a painting.
Q. How long do you normally work on them, about 6-7 months?
A. About 5 weeks. Not long actually, that’s the most I’ve worked on an oil painting.
Q. Is there something special about your work?
A. I like painting abstracted things to add depth to the things in the photos, so I can’t really say that that’s a specific thing. I think when someone is making an oil painting with no background
