Dance mixers are a lot more expensive to build than they are to use, so you don’t want to invest too much time investing in it, though there is plenty of documentation and guides online that will get you started.
When you mix, use the correct controls, mix up each track, then use a single button to mix every element (and track) at the same time. If you mix at a fast rate and use the wrong mix controls, there will be a lot of ‘overlapping elements’ in your mix. There is plenty of documentation and guides online to help you to create a good dance mix, but there is a need to go in-depth with your sound, your mixing, to get a good mix you can use with the right control.
What should I avoid mixing with?
Mixing has very little to do with it, only one element at a time – but as I said, there is plenty of information about it online – and plenty of great tips about it, but there is a need to go in-depth with your sound, your mixing and your mixing to get a good mix you can use with the right control.
One of the biggest pitfalls in this area is the “trusted” brand of sound, which can be just about anything you use in your mix. When I see DJ’s using a brand I don’t trust, my mind immediately goes to the brands they would associate with in their DJ sets – such as Tiesto or Deadmau5 – or even to others from a similar perspective, such as Armin van Buuren or Steve Angello. They aren’t that bad, but it comes at the expense of their sound quality. While I know and respect those who are great DJs; there is a reason so many are DJ’s, so don’t let the reputation and sound of a DJ you use hold you and your sound back from DJing to the fullest! The other big issue is that DJs make mistakes at the beginning, and then don’t make them again after that. In this way the sound of your mixes is not as clean as it could be, and that’s because the start of mixing, and the mix in general, isn’t as clean as you want. If you know you are going to use all the elements at the same time, and aren’t going to start mixing over time, it will be much better for your sound, and your mixes.
