A life coach’s primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:
Create your life
Develop your skills and abilities
Help you develop into an active, healthy you
Provide you with the life-changing tools you need
In order to qualify as a life coach, you must be an active, living, breathing human being who helps you learn to live an empowered and confident life – in a healthy state of mind and body, and with good energy levels.
What you need to gain experience with a life coach
The process is simple. Take a class and then meet with a life coach via phone, email, or in person. The life coach needs to guide you through the lessons you learn and can provide you with information on the most effective areas as you progress with your program. At the end of each lesson, you will receive a self-evaluation report, which can be kept for your records and used as a tool to aid your next steps. Life coaches can be trained out in different locations: as a certified fitness instructor or a personal trainer. The life coach needs to be available to attend a class or attend a workshop or a training session in your local area. If you’re not sure which life coach to ask for, check the online directory of life coaches.
Before you choose a life coach, you’ll want to find out a little more about them. This might seem like a daunting task, but in fact, it’s not as much of a challenge as you think. Ask yourself a few questions and see what you have to learn. For example:
Are they certified in the areas covered in their certifications? Is there a common theme in the areas covered by their certifications? If there is a common theme to their certifications, then it will only take 2-3 hours each.
Are they highly-experienced, and/or reputable in the areas covered in their certifications? If you’re looking for a personal trainer who is a very well-respected individual, then do your research and make sure you don’t have to ask them to come out for free.
Are they willing to mentor people who might need help with their personal/training goals? Do they have the potential to help a student grow and develop with their guidance?
If you do not find a life coach who meets these criteria, you will have to explore what other professionals can do to meet these criteria.
