No matter how you answer that question, there’s one thing we all agree on: The last thing you want is to be an idiot. And not just when you’re learning, but when, in any particular life coaching situation, an idiot is really just being a jerk to somebody else.
No matter what you thought about self-help books and whatnot, it’s clear that there’s a lot of self-help out there, from personal development seminars to motivational speeches to self-help books and even motivational bands. The point, of course, is to make people better, and that generally requires some form of “psychology” and/or some form of “tactics.” And that’s what I’m about. I believe that every single form of “self help” is either the “wrong” way, or that it’s a waste of time. I’ve also noticed that some of the best self-help books I’ve read are the very first ones you read. It’s a good way to learn the ins and outs of how the brain works, and it’s also a great way to feel better about yourself. So let’s get it out there.
So let’s have it! Let’s help some new moms figure out how to care for themselves while raising great children. Then I can offer up a bit of advice on how to take self-care to the next level.
I am offering up three things I think will work for all types of mothers, and I’m also offering them up in three different ways. I’m not offering up any specific suggestions, or any kind of prescription about how to go about getting started with self-care, only that in a given situation — if you are trying to figure out how to parent without harming yourself — I think you will discover that my thoughts could help you.
The first thing I want you to do, from the ground up, is do what you would do in a self-help book. Just do it.
