We have found that it depends on your specific situation and the level of anxiety associated with the subject. For example, we had a client who was depressed and had been experiencing suicidal thoughts. It was not uncommon for her to go into a depression and suicidal thoughts over a period of months. We were surprised by the lack of response to her in the beginning, but slowly it became apparent that she was extremely anxious and that something was greatly wrong for her. In the end, what led to her suicide was that she was anxious and felt that she couldn’t deal with the situation and that if she didn’t resolve her anxiety, she wouldn’t be able to go through her future marriage and so she took her own life. The main thing we’ve found is to take your time doing something. It doesn’t need to be on top of your agenda, but it can serve to give your mind a rest.

A therapist can help to guide your emotional and behavioural responses so that you don’t end up in a state of depression and hopelessness. This is often the hardest part of talking to a mental health professional, especially if the client is highly anxious.

In other cases, it may be helpful to talk to your GP about other possible treatments that may be available to you. The key is to be realistic and to try and understand your client’s feelings.
Also, keep in mind that depression will affect your life and the lives of other people. Some people don’t have suicidal thoughts, so don’t feel under pressure to talk about it. Just make sure you have tried your best to overcome it.
The best thing about talking to you is that you get a clear picture of how severe your anxiety is, and that you have your own perspective on it. If you have tried to cope with your anxiety with drugs or alcohol, then it may be a good idea to do something about that. However, most people don’t feel like
