When should I get certified to be a life coach?

If you’re a college student, you should get certified on your first semester at the college (this is when you’re in the process of applying), and have a personal trainer present (there’s no need to be the instructor; just ask to be a sponsor). You want to make sure your program is appropriate for your student (e.g. there must be a reason for the student to come on the program, not just “for fun”), and that the instructor offers something new for the students.

If you’re over your freshman year, you should get certified at the end of your freshman semester (this is the year you need to apply for the NSCAA certification). Note that you will not be certified until you have met these requirements.

If you’re a former student, you should get certified after your current semester.

As a life coach, are all the NSCAA certified life coaches at once? Or are there any more than the handful of life coaches that are certified during the summer?

Yes. The NSCAA has certified trainers that work with college sports teams, as well as professional and amateur teams, but the NSCAA life coaches cannot work with teams outside of NCAA Division I.

Can you be certified in the same college that you work with?

Not at this time.

If my life coaches work at other schools, should they still be certified?

Absolutely! To be certified, a life coach is required to be able to conduct his or her work at schools located outside of the NSCAA system, at all times. In order to pass certification, all coaches must pass the NSCAA certification exam.

The NSCAA is not responsible for any actions you choose to take concerning your life coaching program.

The NSCAA is not responsible for your life coaching program.
