I think it was the trombone. I could play all the piano parts in seconds. The only challenge is learning the basic melody and harmonies – something I couldn’t figure out initially!
Where do you feel you stand on the music industry?
I’m very happy where I am. I’m not rich so I don’t have to take care of my parents. I don’t take care of my girlfriend either – I’m not going around asking them to meet my brother – I’m not going around saying I’m going to move to London because I have an agent! I do have a good job and I’m happy. I’m getting recognised – I don’t want to be that person who does the press. It’s nice, but I’m sure it will get worse.
What are your favorite records of 2014?
I don’t listen to music! But I have a lot of love for Drake. I’m always on his new album, but all I want to do is listen to that.
Tell me about your new album!
Drake has some crazy songs on there. It’s called Just the Beginning. It’s my best album to date (laughs). I wrote it with three other friends. It’s all very exciting and personal.
Tell me about the name of the project.
I don’t remember exactly! We only had the name for a minute, and then people tried to pronounce it. I guess the English pronunciation is to say “dodger.” I didn’t understand it either (laughs).
Do you have a favorite city to perform in?
Manchester is a really great city. The people are nice and they are super friendly and so friendly and cool. I love getting drunk there with my friends and hanging out with them. It reminds me of the good times I remember at school while drunk. And it’s funny because we have a lot of friends out in America who aren’t here (laughs)!
