As we mentioned in a recent article, Unity3D has never been the easiest to get started in. Even though it is a popular library, there are tons of learning curves for new developers that make it challenging to develop a game in the right way. I have recently been working my way through a series of “Getting Started with Unity” articles, which I have written using the Unity 3D Starter Kit.
While the article series will primarily focus on games for Android, some of the concepts are applicable to many game platforms, and more importantly, some of them are easy to put into practice quickly.
Today, we’d like to discuss what the game development process should be like from the beginner’s perspective. We’ve also included some code snippets so that developers can quickly see what we’re talking about with Unity5.
Preparation
Most novice game developers start with a clean design document, a list of features to work on first (usually around 50% of the total project), and a checklist with requirements, such as what level of detail should be considered, what can be added, and what should be removed.
If you’re using the Unity Editor you can open a design document by clicking on File >
