No, not likely. In cello, there is no natural, “musical” resonance with its body. The tension between the finger and the fingerboard is what produces sound. If the finger itself is in a harmonic resonance with your body, then the string can’t resonate with it. In a cello, the strings are glued to a metal framework and your body is not. If the strings were attached by a string spring, then the viola could be tuned to the notes in the piano scale. However, a string spring doesn’t allow for any natural resonance. If the string is glued to a metal shell and mounted in a spring, and you bend it, then it will resonate differently than if it had a natural resonance. And while you will never hear natural string resonances in a normal string vibrator, you will hear “natural” string vibrations with a cello tuned to the pitches of the piano scales.
As explained by Don Kohn, “If all the string is glued to a metal frame, how exactly would the string’s internal resonating energy be transferred into and out of the cello’s body? How does that energy transfer take place? Does it happen in a single or double resonance, or does it happen in a multi-resonance? If it takes place in a single resonance, there is no natural resonance. If it takes place in a double resonance, there is no natural resonance—there is no natural frequency. It is impossible to achieve any natural resonance in a musical instrument, and that includes a cello.”
